NBL agrees three year broadcast deal with 10 Network
August 20, 2021

The National Basketball League (NBL) has announced that is has agreed a three year partnership that will bring NBL broadcasts back to 10 Network.

The deal will replace SBS with 10 Network as the free-to-air home broadcaster, in a deal worth a reported $45 million.

As part of the deal, two NBL games will be broadcasted live each Sunday afternoon on 10 Peach and streamed live on 10 Play, from 1 pm.

Network 10’s Director of Sports Production, Adam Cush, stated “we are thrilled to welcome back the NBL to Network 10 (Channel 10).

“We are looking forward to working closely with the NBL to take the sport to all Australians and broadcasting a fantastic season of the league, which also boasts several of the Australian Boomers Olympic bronze medallists.”

Basketball has gained considerable viewing figures in Australia this year, with Australia’s battle against the USA’s ‘Dream Team’ in the Tokyo Olympics, attracting an average of 652,000 viewers, and a record-breaking 739,000 online streams, beating the record held by the Melbourne Cup.

The Australian Boomers also took home a bronze medal at the Tokyo Games for the first time in Olympic history.

Hungry Jack’s NBL owner and Executive Chairman, Larry Kestelman added “we are absolutely delighted to welcome Network 10 back into the NBL family.

“Network 10 played a major role in the NBL’s booming popularity in the 1990s and we are thrilled to have them back on board to help take our league to the next level.

“This season is shaping up as one of the best yet notwithstanding the challenges ahead, it will be great to welcome back the numerous Australian Boomers Olympic bronze medallists returning to the NBL, marquee signings and the inclusion of the Tasmania JackJumpers.

“We are excited to have Network 10 as part of the NBL family for the next three seasons which gives our fans a consistent free-to-air home of the NBL.”
