Aussie Ark launches Australian Wildlife Flood Appeal in wake of recent flood disaster

Aussie Ark launches Australian Wildlife Flood Appeal in wake of recent flood disaster
March 11, 2022

Australian wildlife has one again been brutally impacted by recent flooding in South East Queensland and in particular the Northern Rivers of New South Wales and in response conservation organisation, Aussie Ark, have launched the Australian Wildlife Flood Appeal, in an effort to begin rebuilding habitats, as well as safeguarding and protecting Australian wildlife into the future.

The flood waters have flooded burrows and drowned animals such as wombats and echidnas, while critical food sources will be washed away. The destruction of habitat will be huge, and the impacts will be long lasting, with species displaced and placed at greater risk of predation by feral animals, car strike and disease.

Funds raised by the Australian Wildlife Flood Appeal will be used to help rebuild the resilience of Australian wildlife to natural disasters. Providing safe havens for wildlife to survive and thrive. Donations will also go towards the restoration of flood-damaged tree planting projects – including critical Koala food tree programs – at the Mongo Valley Wildlife Sanctuary.

Tim Faulkner, Managing Director of Aussie Ark says of the disaster “The recent rains have been devastating. We have watched in horror as families and entire communities have lost everything. So have our wildlife.”

Faulkner continues “Aussie wildlife has just begun to recover following the bushfire disaster of 2022 and now another blow has been dealt to them”

With increased floods, fire, drought and Australia's ongoing extinction crisis, Aussie wildlife is disappearing rapidly. Long term, tangible outcomes are needed to ensure their longevity. Aussie Ark works to create insurance populations of vulnerable species and rewilding them to protected spaces.

“Aussie Ark has a unique conservation toolbox. One that Australia is in desperate need of. We have the ability to make real long term positive outcomes for native wildlife in Australia” adds Faulkner.

You can support the recovery of Australia’s wildlife by donating today to the Australian Wildlife Flood Appeal

As a not for profit organisation, Aussie Ark raises the necessary funds to continue its ambitious vision. More information at www.aussieark.org.au
