The guides Energy and water metering and monitoring guide for aquatic centres and Energy efficient water heating technology guide for aquatic centres note that energy and water are the two largest resources consumed in an aquatic centres, accounting for up to 90% of operating costs.
Explaining that energy and water "can also be the greatest source of waste if not correctly monitored and managed" the guides provide high-level guidance on commercially-proven, energy efficient and cost-effective practices and available technologies to help centre owners and operators reduce energy use and operating costs.
The first document provides expert advice on measuring and monitoring water, electricity and gas usage for aquatic centres and aims to help operators and managers identify the required data, choose a suitable metering arrangement, plan a metering and monitoring program, assign responsibilities to ensure action is taken, and identify opportunities to reduce energy and water costs.
The energy efficient water heating technology guide is aimed at all involved in managing water heating systems at aquatic centres and other facilities with heated pools, such as gymnasiums and recreation centres.
It provides high-level guidance on commercially-proven, energy efficient and cost-effective practices and available technologies to help centre owners and operators reduce energy use and operating costs related to pool water heating.
First released in June, the documents are available free of charge.
