Construction commences on Hong Kong Disneyland’s multi-year transformation

Construction commences on Hong Kong Disneyland’s multi-year transformation
October 19, 2017

Work has begun on Hong Kong Disneyland Resort’s major transformation which will see the introduction of new attractions and entertainment experiences including new Marvel and Frozen zones.

Scheduled over six years starting, the attraction will continue to grow with the first new area, a Moana-themed entertainment venue, set top open in the resort’s Adventureland next year.

Launching the expansion, Samuel Lau, Hong Kong Disneyland’s Executive Vice President and Managing Director advised “we are thrilled to create amazing first-of-a-kind experiences based on some of Disney’s best brands, including Marvel and Frozen, here at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

“Marvel and Frozen are popular with guests across our Asian markets (and) the new expansion will greatly enhance the appeal of Hong Kong Disneyland to guests of all ages and genders in the region.

“It will give guests new reasons to travel to the resort and this amazing city.”

Under the expansion plan, new themed areas, attractions and entertainment will launch almost every year from 2018 through 2023.

In addition to the Moana-themed entertainment venue, highlights of the expansion will include:

• A brand new experience featuring Ant-Man, The Wasp* and S.H.I.E.L.D. will be launched in Tomorrowland. This hopes to build on the success of the Iron Man Experience which is the park’s most popular attraction.
• An all-new, immersive Frozen-themed area where guests will experience the characters and stories from the film in “amazing ways”.
• Hong Kong Disneyland’s landmark ‘Enchanted Castle’ will also undergo a transformation to celebrate all of the Disney Princesses. It will also be the focus of a new daytime show and nighttime show.

This latest expansion follows in the footsteps of a number of major new offerings including ‘Mickey and the Wondrous Book,’ which opened in celebration of Hong Kong Disneyland’s 10th anniversary in 2015, and last year’s ‘Star Wars: Tomorrowland Takeover’.

In April, the resort unveiled its exploration-themed hotel, Disney Explorers Lodge – a unique offering for Hong Kong’s resort and tourism industry.

Hong Kong Disneyland is currently hosting its Halloween guest party, retelling classic Disney stories with new twists and turns, bringing unexpected surprises to all guests.

*The Wasp will debut in cinemas in the 2018 Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man and The Wasp.
