Active Ageing classes prove popular at Wagga Wagga’s Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre
August 31, 2022

A program of aqua and gym-based fitness classes specifically for people aged over 50 at Wagga Wagga City Council’s Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre have proved popular since their introduction earlier this year.

The Staying Active classes are now running every Monday, with the aqua aerobics class held at 7.30am and the group fitness class at 11am.

Oasis Programs Supervisor Lauren Gaynor said the classes were a terrific way for over 50s to start their fitness journey, be supported by enthusiastic staff, and make new friends.

Gaynor explained “it doesn’t really matter what level of fitness you’re currently at or if you have pre-existing injuries; our staff will be able to adapt the workout to suit what you’re comfortable with.

“The classes are held in a big space, and the class sizes are capped, so there’s plenty of room to socially distance as well.”

With the Staying Active classes also proving to be a social activity for participants, Gaynor added “exercising in a group environment is a lot of fun and many of our class groups go out for coffee later.”
