The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) is warning that Games tickets available on resale websites are not real.

With ticket scalpers and resellers already attempting to cash in on next year's Games, GOLDOC Chairman Peter Beattie has warned that the tickets being resold arre not real.

Beattie told ABC Radio Brisbane "the tickets aren't being issued until January next year.

"So my advice is don't buy these tickets as you're not really buying tickets.

"Anyone who buys them is a mug as you're buying nothing, you're buying hot air.

"We won't allow people to be ripped off."

People were notified last month if they had been successful in securing tickets via a ballot for the 2018 Games, with remaining tickets now on sale.

Beattie said if people attempted to on-sell their tickets at a profit they would be found, adding "we know everyone who has been allocated a ticket, and if they put them online for sale we will approach them to take them down.

"If they don't, we can cancel the tickets as it's illegal.

"We think that cancelling them is more powerful than going through to prosecution."

In the case where a ticketholder can no longer attend the Games, Beattie said they would be able to pass the ticket on to family and friends, advising "they can give the ticket or sell it to a loved one at the price they paid for it, but if you go out scalping we can cancel the ticket.

"These are family-friendly Games and we want everyone to enjoy them.

"The ticket belongs to you, right to the gate, and it's still your ticket even if you pass it on."

Beattie advised that an official ticket resale site had been considered, but that it would no be actioned.

He concluded "we made it clear in the terms and conditions that there was no resale option."
