Tamworth Regional Council votes to delay $67 million Aquatic Centre project

Tamworth Regional Council votes to delay $67 million Aquatic Centre project
June 26, 2020

Tamworth Regional Council has this week voted to delay the development of its planned new $67 million Tamworth Aquatic and Leisure Centre project until the Coronavirus crisis passes.

Councillors decided at an Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday night to delay further spending on developing the detailed design for 12 months until considerations start for the 2021/22 Budget.

The delay was based on a recommendation from Council officers that took account that the current estimated amount of funding required ($2.68 million) to engage an architect to progress the project to 50% design, for design documentation to be ready to engage a contractor under a single Design and Construct delivery contract.

The recommendation that, due to the current impact of COVID-19, this be deferred for 12 months was agreed.

Councillors also agreed to place the Draft Tamworth Regional Gallery Strategic Plan on public exhibition to seek community feedback about the initiatives and activities proposed.

The Gallery, more then 100 years old, is recognised for the development and implementation of its annual artistic program.
