Consultants Otium highlight how aquatic and recreation projects stimulate local communities
June 18, 2020

Leading industry consultants Otium Planning Group have highlighted how a range of aquatic and recreation facility projects to which it has had input are stimulating local economies, enhancing active and healthy lifestyles and delivering much needed social and economic benefits.

A statement from Otium advises “many local councils and communities that have invested in aquatic and leisure centre feasibility and business planning are taking planning to action with the construction and development of significant community activity and social hubs.

“Not only will this aquatic and leisure facility investment stimulate much needed social, health and economic benefits but the facilities collectively will form a legacy of places and spaces that will stimulate their communities to be healthier as well as be ‘more active more often’.

“Otium Planning Group is extremely pleased to have contributed professional planning and business services in association with great teams of designers, engineers, project managers and quantity surveyors to make many of these facilities ‘come to life’.”

Kate Maddock, Managing Director and Michael King, Director have led the OPG project teams covering diverse roles including feasibility and business planning, design team advice, management/operational reviews, industry trends, financial analysis, funding strategies and management advice.

The projects, worth up to an estimated $600 million in local and regional capital and community investment, include:

• Batemans Bay Arts and Aquatic Leisure Centre - Eurobodalla Shire Council, NSW
• Botany Aquatic Centre Upgrade - Bayside Council, NSW
• Carnegie Swimming Centre Redevelopment - Glen Eira City Council, Victoria
