Supply issues cause new delay for open of Sea World’s new Leviathan rollercoaster

Supply issues cause new delay for open of Sea World’s new Leviathan rollercoaster
August 7, 2022

The launch of Sea World’s new Leviathan timber rollercoaster has been postponed for a fourth time, with supply problems delaying the opening of the third ride in the theme park’s New Atlantis precinct past its most recently advised launch date of 3rd September.

While supply problems are further delaying completion of the 32 metre-high Leviathan, the $20 million attraction is going through testing, with video showing the empty carriages making their way around the twisting 80km/h track, which has been rising over the Main Beach theme park since 2019.

Once complete, the Leviathan will be one of the largest wooden roller coasters in the world - and the first to include backward facing seats.

Featuring three new attractions, the $50 million New Atlantis precinct’s Vortex spiral ride opened in December 2022 while the Leviathan and the Trident flyer-ride had first been due to open in June 2021.

However, transport problems caused by the pandemic saw the launch date for the Leviathan and the Trident pushed back to September 2021, then February this year the theme park postponed the opening for the third time.

Village Roadshow spokesman Mitch Olivey said Queensland Government approvals formed part of the commissioning process for the rides, commenting “we have excitingly commenced the commissioning process of the Leviathan and with the ride’s manufacturer, ran the first train around the track last week

“Our team are also conjointly working on construction and commissioning of the Trident attraction which forms park of the New Atlantis precinct, and we are working tirelessly to get the rides opened as soon as safely possible.

“We can’t wait for our guests to experience the Leviathan and Trident when they open later in the year.”
