read moreThe 2020 program for the Alice Springs’ 10-day Festival in Light - Parrtjima – is running until 20th September with Northern Territory Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Major Events Natasha Fyles announcing the Festival will return to the Red Centre in 2021 from 9th to 18th April.
The 2020 program commenced with a moving opening ceremony and Welcome to Country at Alice Springs Desert Park, and the Todd Mall program commenced with music by Stuart Nuggett, the first of the Deep Listening talks with broadcast journalist Tracey Holmes and a showing of the film Babakiueria.
Each year Parrtjima draws people to the Red Centre for what has proven to be an enchanting visitor experience and provides a boost for the local economy.
This year’s Parrtjima was rescheduled from 3rd to 12th April 2020 due to COVID-19 precautions.
Minister Fyles advised “Parrtjima celebrates the Territory’s ancient and fascinating Aboriginal heritage in exciting ways that attract new audiences.
“It is fantastic this event has been able to go ahead with careful health and safety planning, having been rescheduled due to COVID-19 earlier this year.
“It is an event that brings a welcome boost to the economy, as thousands of locals and visitors use it as an opportunity to venture out at night and enjoy Red Centre dining and entertainment.
“This is the fifth successful Parrtjima event, and I’m pleased to announce the 2021 dates for April next year for a sixth outing.”
Visitors must register online to attend this year.
