New Event Manager appointed for Alice Springs Masters Games
The 18th Alice Springs Masters Games (ASMG) has appointed Joel Ulbricht as their new Event Manager who brings a wealth of experience to the role.
Ulbricht has spent more than 15 years in event management, both in Australia and overseas with achievements including the 2017 BMX National Championships held in Brisbane in 2017and also leading a team of 600 Australian athletes to the UCI BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, USA.
Ulbricht has delivered music festivals and Australia Day events, as well as the 2019 Canowindra International Balloon Challenge in NSW which attracts pilots and balloons from around the world, sees the historic town of 2000 swell to nearly 9000, delivering a huge boost to the local economy.
The ASMG delivers a similar benefit to Alice Springs, with almost 4000 athletes, volunteers, friends and family coming together and creating a festival atmosphere.
Fondly known as ‘The Friendly Games’ thanks to the sense of camaraderie that prevails throughout, the ASMG began in 1986. Held every two years, in 2020 the games will run from 10th to 17th October.
Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC)’s Head of Major Events, Sally Jarvis advises “the Alice Springs Masters Games are a much-loved event that attracts thousands of people from all over Australia and even the world.
“This influx of people adds to the local economy, and the Games are a chance for the whole community to get involved, whether through competing, volunteering or spectating.
“Having someone like Joel on board, who has worked on national and international events, will help us continue to build on the success of this popular sports event.”
Alice Springs Masters Games Event Manager, Joel Ulbricht adds “I’m excited at the chance to work on such a well-loved event in such an iconic location, and to help the Alice Springs community benefit from the opportunities a multi-sport event such as this provides.
“Community-based events that involve volunteer sporting bodies are my favourite. They have the power to really unite a community while shining a light on a destination, and I’ll be working hard to increase national and international awareness of the Games. What’s more Australian than a multi-sport event in the middle of the Outback? It’s the perfect start to an Australian adventure.”
