Framework for crisis management updated ahead of high-risk weather

Framework for crisis management updated ahead of high-risk weather
October 20, 2020

An updated Australian Government Crisis Management Framework (AGCMF) came into effect on Monday 12th October.

Version 2.3 of the crisis framework outlines the arrangements enabling the Federal Government’s 'all hazards' crisis management approach and is focused mainly on near-term crisis preparedness, immediate crisis response and early crisis recovery arrangements.

Long-term disaster risk reduction and resilience-building activities are not covered in detail.

Crises may include (but are not limited to) terrorist incidents, cyber incidents, health pandemics, animal diseases, natural disasters and incidents affecting Australians and/or Australian interests overseas.

The crisis framework provides ministers and senior officials with guidance on their respective roles and responsibilities whilst setting out the arrangements that link ministers and the work of key officials, committees and facilities.

The updates ensure that arrangements which set out the Federal Government’s response to emergencies and natural disasters are up to date in preparation for the 2020/21 high-risk weather season.
