Eight new Western Australian aquatic centres receive recognition for being Waterwise
August 13, 2019

Aquatic centres across Western Australia were last night recognised for their commitment to running their centres in the most water efficient way possible.

The eight centres all became endorsed as Waterwise Aquatic Centres at the 50th Annual Conference of the Leisure Institute of WA Aquatics (LIWA).

The centres recognised included the Albany Leisure and Acquatic Centre, Bayswater Waves, Boddington Swimming Pool, Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre, Cockburn Aquatic and Recreation Centre, Kwinana Recquatic, Paltridge Memorial Swimming Pool and Scarborough Beach Pool.

The Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program is a joint initiative of Water Corporation and the LIWA, with 44 centres now endorsed across the state.

The newly endorsed centres have made significant and ongoing commitments to using water wisely in their facilities, such as installing automated taps and toilets, water efficient appliances, daily water use monitoring, leak detection programs and landscaped waterwise gardens.

Acknowledging the facilities’ water efficiency, Western Australian Water Minister Dave Kelly stated “congratulations to the councils involved in running these important facilities for the community, while leading the way in water efficiency.

“Through the program, Water Corporation and Leisure Institute of WA Aquatics help aquatic centre managers with advice and information to review operational water use, and support to promote waterwise practices in their centres.

“I encourage other councils in WA with aquatic centres that are not yet participating in the program to contact Water Corporation today and find out how you can get involved and save precious water.”

Over the past decade, the Western Australian aquatics industry has saved around 858 million litres of water.
