read moreFacility managers Belgravia Leisure have announced the results from the first year of the Belgravia Cup competition, held at the Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre at weekend.
Attracting over 200 competitors from five facilities competing in both Age Group and Overall Point Score competitions, Saturday evening and saw a flurry of personal bests posted with some outstanding racing across the event.
With a format offering Squad programs at Belgavia Leisure-managed facilities from across NSW compete the chance to compete for Team Point Score, the Belgravia Cup showcased the talent and demonstrated Belgravia’s commitment to its competitive swimming programs.
Only two individuals from each centre were eligible to score points in each event, creating an even playing field for centres regardless of squad size, with the key challenge to provide competitors across all the events.
The Belgravia Cup provided a quality racing platform for the National Age qualified athletes, with three new National Age qualifying times, two from time trials and another in the regular event. The event also saw an enjoyable end of the season for many club swimmers, providing some powerful motivation for next season to lift personal times.
Commenting on the success of the inaugural event, Belgravia Leisure NSW State Manager James Ellender advised “the Belgravia Cup is an opportunity for several swimming clubs to come together in a fun competitive environment with an exciting unique format.
“Belgravia Leisure is looking to support competitive swimming through this event and see it as something that will grow year-on-year. To see so many competitors come along to our event and be supported by our coaches from across the five facilities is testament to the growing culture of competitive swimming across our venues.”
