Olympic great launches swimming squad program at new Auburn aquatic centre

Olympic great launches swimming squad program at new Auburn aquatic centre
June 29, 2017

Former Olympic swimmer Ruth Everuss was on hand last Friday at the swimming facility named in her honour, the Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre, to officially launch the Sydney’s newest squad program.

Centre Manager David Burns said swimming champions get their start from local swim squads, where home-grown talent is nurtured, supported and trained in preparation for the competitive world stage.

Burns explained “Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre is fully equipped to not only provide our swimmers with a world-class training facility, but will also benefit athletes from all sporting disciplines.

“The indoor heated pool and gymnasium caters to team sport recovery sessions, as well as conditioning.”

The Olympic pool is fit to host state level swim meets and the grandstand provides plenty of space for spectators.

The public event included free entry, with Ruth Everuss meeting and greeting visitors and launching a series of swimming races.

Auburn Swim Club, Auburn Masters and Swimming NSW partnered with the centre to bring this swimming squad to the local community.

All children aged seven and under who signed up for a membership with Auburn Swim Club received a free Swimming NSW Junior Dolphins pack.

The squad program consists of distinct levels, including recreational swimmers wanting to improve their stroke technique right up to elite swimmers competing in National Championship competitions.
