Village Roadshow Theme Parks to offer Chinese language and culture courses to staff team

Village Roadshow Theme Parks to offer Chinese language and culture courses to staff team
April 20, 2016

Village Roadshow Theme Parks (VRTP) has joined forces with The University of Queensland’s Confucius Institute and Saint Stephen’s College in Coomera to provide Chinese language and culture courses to team members.

With China now the largest international market for VRTP and following from a successful Chinese New Year with increased visitor, the courses couldn’t have come at a better time.

VRTP’s Human Resources Divisional Manager, Tony Lines said a key focus of the world-class theme park company is to provide exceptional experiences for guests and team members across the company have jumped on board to expand their knowledge base.

Lines explained “there has been a tremendous and diverse response to the courses from our team members ranging from entry level staff to General Managers.

“Thanks to the Confucius Institute and Saint Stephen’s College we are able to provide our team members with this wonderful opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the Chinese language and culture which will help our business provide a better overall guest experience.”

UQ Confucius Institute Director, Professor Ping Chen said the courses which began earlier in the year involve 12 weeks of intensive Chinese language and culture courses in an environment tailored to the needs of the VRTP business.

Professor Chen added “the courses have been designed so that team members receive language and culture training specific to their duties at each theme park with interactive lessons developed to enhance the learning experience.

“The Confucius Institute at The University of Queensland provides support for this program and has worked closely with Saint Stephen’s College where the courses are being delivered.”

The Confucius Institute at UQ seeks to promote the learning of the Chinese language and culture at UQ and the broader community, offering corporate services upon request to cater for specific interests and focus areas. Given the hundreds of thousands of Mandarin speaking tourists who visit Queensland each year, the Institute is proud to be part of this initiative which supports the local tourism industry.

VRTP is Australia’s largest theme park operator with Sea World, Warner Bros. Movie World, Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast, Paradise Country, Australian Outback Spectacular, Village Roadshow Studios and Sea World Resort in its Gold Coast portfolio.

It also operates Wet’n’Wild Sydney.
