Victorian Indigenous Surfing Program receives additional support from Kieser Australia

Victorian Indigenous Surfing Program receives additional support from Kieser Australia
November 18, 2019

The Victorian Indigenous Surfing Program will receive extra support this summer with physiotherapy and strength training group Kieser Australia expanding their partnership of Surfing Victoria to include the 20+ year old program that teaches surfing and water safety to communities around the state.

Surfing Victoria Indigenous Aquatics Officer Jordie Campbell, is excited to have Kieser involved with the program and notes “the Victorian Indigenous Surfing Program has been running for over 20 years helping Indigenous Communities learn to surf and be safer in the ocean, to have the team from Kieser involved is going to be a great boost to the program.

“We are looking forward to having Kieser involved with the Woorangalook Koori Surfing Titles in February and at a heap of other programs across the state.”

Visiting over 11 locations across Victoria, the program sees over 600 participants per year go through the program learning valuable water safety skills through surfing along with strengthening cultural ties with program mentors.

With 17 centres across Australia, Kieser is a network of integrated Physiotherapy, rehabilitation and strength training centres dedicated to their mission of “Building a Stronger Australia”. The Kieser method is a fusion of health science and exercise science.

Kieser Chief Executive, Brett Long advised “We are really excited to extend our partnership with Surfing Victoria and increase our involvement at a community level with the Woorangalook Koori Surfing Titles and other Surfing Victoria Regional Programs.

“Our Mission is to build a stronger Australia and the prospect of playing a role in increasing activity levels for all generations fits perfectly with our ethos.”

The Victorian Indigenous Surfing Program culminates in two key events each year, the Woorangalook Koori Surfing Titles at Urquhart Bluff and the Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles at Bells Beach.
