read moreShoalhaven City Council has announced funding for seven sustainable tourism infrastructure projects following their success earlier in the year in obtaining a $5.3 million grant under the NSW Government Restart NSW Infrastructure Grant.
The $5.3 Million together with $1.63 Million of Council funding and an $80,000 in-kind contribution from the Ulladulla Local Aboriginal Land Council (ULALC) will enable projects to be undertaken to improve infrastructure around some of the City’s most popular tourist destinations.
Project locations include:
• Plantation Point
• Palm Beach
• St Georges Basin/Sanctuary Point
• Bherwerre Wetland
• Hyams Beach
• Ulladulla Headland and Warden Head Walking Trails
• Murramarang Coastal Walk Extension
To deliver the projects, Council has appointed Michelle Green as the Tourism Project Manager.
Green has delivered a wide range of Local Government infrastructure projects with Wingecarribee Shire Council and in the private school sector, for the Anglican Schools Corporation. Having grown up in the Shoalhaven, she is excited to return home to the South Coast and is looking forward to working with Council staff and the community to deliver the projects and enhance our tourism infrastructure for both visitors and local residents.
Shoalhaven Tourism Advisory Committee Chair, Rob Crow notes “Tourism in the Shoalhaven is a $1 billion industry, we are excited to deliver infrastructure to support our community and visitor economy.
“This infrastructure will offer new and improved facilities in some of our most highly utilised areas, as well as offer alternative experiences to drive off peak visitation, creating year-round jobs.”
In accordance with the Restart NSW Grant Guidelines, the projects will be delivered over the next three years. Council will be conducting community consultation as the projects progress.
