read morePerisher Resort has advised that for the upcoming 2020 season, they will be staggering the sale of their lift tickets, lessons and rentals to ensure a smooth experience.
As their products will only be available for advance purchase, they are mindful of the significant load this may create for their IT systems.
Perisher have advised that their initial advanced purchases for Perisher 3+ Day Consecutive Lift Tickets, Lessons and Rentals for period 24th June to 19th July can be made as of tomorrow (Tuesday 16th June) from 8.30am.
By 17th June Perisher Resort advise that they will provide further information on the next stages of sales for Lift Tickets, Lessons and Rentals.
In a statement Perisher Resort explain “we understand that the mandatory pre-purchase of limited availability lift tickets is new and we thank you in advance for your understanding, patience and kindness as we strive to provide you with the best possible experience booking your snow holiday.”
Perisher's staggering of sales follows the clogging of the Thredbo ski resort's online ski pass shop website on its first day of operation on Friday 12th June.
Media reported that the Thredbo website has been inundated with as many as 28,000 buyers.
Disappointed skiers who had previously booked their accommodation were unable to secure ski lift passes corresponding to their days of travel. This is especially frustrating as some landlords are reluctant to refund these accommodation bookings.
Some visitors to the site waited up to 12 hours without success, while others were frustrated with conflicting advice given to them by the Thredbo guest services team.
The Thredbo resort posted a statement on Instagram on 12th June apologising for the poor response of their site “"we're experiencing an unprecedented amount of traffic to our website today. We love your passion for the mountains and getting back skiing and snowboarding again this season.
"Please hang in there - we're working through the issues and hope to have it all resolved for you ASAP. A heads up that this is our first release of passes and we'll be releasing more passes as soon as snow conditions allow."
The first day passes put on sale by the ski resort allows for customers to access Thredbo mountain between 22nd June and 13th September, with extra admissions to be put on sale later for dates ranging up until the end of the ski season on 5th October.
With international travel not on the horizon, Australian ski fields are expecting significant crowds throughout the snow season.
