read moreFitness Australia is set to hold a Special General Meeting at which it hopes voting members will to agree to proposals for a series of changes in its constitution that will bring the peak body in line with contemporary governance practices.
Key among the changes is a proposal for registered personal trainers (AusREPs) to vote, nominate for stand for the Fitness Australia’s board, removing past criticism that personal trainers lacked representation.
Proposed changes to the composition will see two board place allocated to elected personal trainers, two for business members and three for directors who will be appointed for their specific skills.
In addition, it is proposed that the board has gender allocations with a make that is a minimum of 40% female and 40% male.
The reforms are seen as ensuring more equal representation from the industry in the make up of Fitness Australia’s Board consistent with contemporary standards in governance.
A statement from the industry peak body advises “Fitness Australia is committed to the continual development of a flexible and agile culture, with effective structures, systems and processes to help us achieve our vision for more Australians to be more active, more often.
“For this reason, the board of directors and Chief Executive Officer of Fitness Australia have undertaken a review of the Constitution in 2019.
“As a result of this review process, the Board proposes, and recommends to the Members, a number of amendments to the existing Constitution.”
