Australian Swimming League launch event delayed due to COVID-19

Australian Swimming League launch event delayed due to COVID-19
August 18, 2021

The Australian Swimming League (ASL) have made the decision to delay its planned launch event scheduled for October due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, with the event now set to take place in early 2022.

The decision to push back the timing of this launch event was made with an abundance of caution to prioritise the health and safety of all involved plus provide clarity to officials and participants, considering the challenges associated with movement within Australia.

Confirming the news, ASL Chief Executive, Stuart Coventry advised “while it’s not a decision we wanted to make, it’s the responsible decision considering the Government and Health messaging around public movement and the strict protocols associated with staging events.

“While we are disappointed to delay our plans, what has been really pleasing is the overwhelmingly positive response the ASL has received since the league was unveiled last month. We look forward to getting off the blocks in 2022.”

This innovative national professional Australian Swimming League is a strategic partnership between the ASL and Swimming Australia.

The inaugural series will formally commence in Q4 2022 and will provide Australia’s world-leading swimmers and the next wave of young talent with the opportunity to compete against each other in elite competition on an annual basis, while delivering a fresh, exciting, and engaging entertainment product for fans both in attendance and watching at home.
