read moreVillage Roadshow appears to be moving forward with plans to develop a nine-story, 398-room hotel at Warner Bros. Movie World on the Gold Coast with reports that the company has lodged a trademark application for its brand.
As reported by the Gold Coast Bulletin, IP Australia documents show Village Roadshow applied for a trademark for ‘Hotel V’ at the end of March. It is pending registration.
Village Roadshow, acquired by private equity firm BGH at the end of last year, gained development approval for a hotel on its 14 hectare site at Oxenford in 2017, with plans for the hotel including a business centre and function centre as well as “extensive outdoor swimming facilities, outdoor guest recreation areas and feature landscaping plantings”.
While the company has made no formal announcement on the plan, Village Roadshow Theme Parks Chief Operating Officer, Bikash Randhawa has been active on social media, writing “I don’t do this often, but get ready for some HUGE announcements from us. There will be no theme park on the GC or in Australia that will be able to compete with us.”
The news follows the Gold Coast Bulletin last week revealing that Dreamworld’s owner Ardent Leisure is looking for major new attractions for the theme park beyond its new $32 million Steel Taipan ride.
