The tender for the detailed design of the Western Australian Government-backed indoor swimming pool has advertised by the Shire of Collie.

Aiming to award the construction contract for the $2 million project by October, with construction anticipated to commence before the end of the year, the project aims to deliver a 16-metre by 10-metre heated swimming pool to be located at the Collie Mine Worker’s Memorial Swimming Pool site.

Sited at the southern end of the existing 50 metre outdoor swimming pool, the new pool will be suitable for lap swimming and will include an access ramp, integrated spa, and in-water seats for swimming lessons.

The project will also include an office, reception and meeting room, universal access toilets and change rooms.

Commenting on the project, Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan stated “this is a fantastic project for the Collie community (and serves as) a good example of supporting our regional communities and providing up-to-date facilities that will have numerous health and wellbeing spin-offs."

The Collie Mine Worker’s Memorial Swimming Pool was built in November 1964 and offers aqua aerobics, a children’s water play area, ramp access and disabled facilities and barbeque facilities.

The new pool is expected to be open to the public in late 2021.
