Northern Territory’s Kilgariff Recreation Centre introduces functional training area

Northern Territory’s Kilgariff Recreation Centre introduces functional training area
October 31, 2019

YMCA of the Northern Territory has announced the launch of its first functional training area at the Kilgariff Recreation Centre in Alice Springs this week.

Called ‘Top Shelf’, the specialised training area provides current patrons, and the wider Alice Springs community, access to state-of-the-art functional fitness equipment to further support people on their health and wellness journey. ‘Top Shelf’, compliments the suite of great services already on offer at the facility, including the health club, group fitness, rock-wall and stadium programs.

After being forced to close due to storm damage a few years ago, a $2 million redevelopment has transformed the Kilgariff Recreation Centre (KRC) into a modern sport and fitness community hub. With features including a powersled and track, monkey bars, tyre flipping, and slam balls, the Top Shelf functional training area is set to attract an even broader audience, positioning KRC as the centre that can cater to all fitness needs.

KRC Centre Manager Shane Walsh commented “(I am) really excited to be able to offer this state-of-the-art facility to current members and to the wider community.

“Top Shelf gives the people of the Alice Springs yet another opportunity to tailor their fitness program in a way that really suits every individual. I hope this new functional training area will encourage even more members of the community to come and join us for some fitness fun at KRC.”

YMCA of the Northern Territory Executive Manager, Calum Eastwood added “the team have worked extremely hard at the facility over the past 12 months, implementing a number of new programs and services since the launch of 24/7 access back in September 2018.

“It is very rewarding to see the growth of this facility. This is a fantastic community asset, one which can be used by all. Shane and his team have done a tremendous job in continuing to develop the programs and services here, and the growth is only set to continue.”
