read moreConstruction has officially begun on the Waves Aquatic Centre redevelopment in Baulkham Hills with the redeveloped facility to feature a FINA Standard Olympic sized swimming pool with 10 lanes; a combined indoor 25 metre learn to swim pool and family leisure pool; swimming clubhouse, and large gym and fitness centre.
Hills Shire Mayor, Dr Michelle Byrne joined her fellow Councillors, Seven Hills MP Mark Taylor and representatives from ADCO Construction, the appointed builder for the pool redevelopment project, to turn the first sods of the multi-million dollar project.
Mayor Byrne enthused “this is a really exciting time and I’m looking forward to construction beginning on this re-imagined facility, which will provide a modern water space for the whole community to enjoy for years to come.
“The new and improved centre will also have an additional 20 metre warm water pool with spa and sauna facilities, a 25 metre outdoor pool, spectator seating, café, water play structure and splash pad, and additional parking. It will also be ideally set up to be more accessible and more inclusive than ever.
“I’m looking forward to residents enjoying this special space soon.”
ADCO’s NSW State Manager, John Basilisco, echoed similar sentiments adding “ADCO is truly delighted to be working on this significant community project, which will provide the Baulkham Hills and wider Hills community with world-class, elite pool facilities.”
The Waves Aquatic Centre Redevelopment Project is expected to take between 18 to 24 months to complete, with weather permitting.
Apart from the Centre upgrades, Council has also committed $300,000 to revitalising the Roxborough Park Rose Garden, which is located next door to the aquatic and fitness centre.
Mayor Byrne also advised “the rose garden is a favourite community place to walk, relax and literally ‘smell the roses’ and we are planning to improve the walking paths and rotunda, fix the stairs and upgrade the watering system in the future.
“This will ensure people can enjoy both active and reflective community spaces side-by-side.”
