read moreThe World Surf League has announced that its 2022 season will see four consecutive months of regional and international competitions take place across Australia.
Events will begin in February with a series of men’s and women’s regional qualifying series and pro junior events with contestants competing for positions at the Challenger Series and World Junior Championship.
Locations will include the Gold Coast; Phillip Island in Victoria; and at Newcastle, the Tweed Coast, Central Coast, Manly, Maroubra, Port Stephens and Pacific Palms in NSW.
These events will then be followed by the Championship Tour, with the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach to take place for the first time since 2019, followed by the Margaret River Pro in Western Australia.
This will then be followed by two Challenger Series Events in May at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast and then in Sydney.
Releasing the calendar of events for early 2022, World Surf League APAC General Manager, Andrew Stark, stated “we’re beyond happy to be welcoming professional competitive surfing back to Australian shores this summer.
“We had a good run of events earlier this year and are excited for even more action in the Summer and Autumn months of 2022.
“The spread across multiple tours is unprecedented with multiple junior, qualifying, Challenger Series and Championship Tour events taking place across four states in four months.
“It’s going to be an exciting time not only for competitors, but for surf fans here in Australia and watching live around the world.”
