The partnership with NEC will establish the Coliseum Theatre and West HQ as a showcase venue for technical innovation focused on enhancing the customer experience.
Western Sydney's new Coliseum Theatre is a state-of-the-art 2,000 seat multi-mode venue, offering world class concert, musicals and theatrical entertainment.
The partnership includes NEC’s world-class LED display systems for menus, wayfinding, and interactive customer promotions, powered by CiscoVision IPTV. NEC has also partnered with West HQ to develop and deploy market-leading solutions for CCTV security systems, network infrastructure, and across the entire eight-hectare site, free Wi-Fi for guests.
Facial recognition kiosks will assist customers to seamlessly sign into the venue and navigate their way through to the theatre faster and more conveniently than ever before - a window into the way of the future for entertainment venues everywhere.
Testing of the 20 kiosks installed at West HQ by NEC prior to the official opening has seen verification and voucher-issuing times as low as nine seconds per person.
NEC Australia Managing Director, Mitsuhiro Murooka advised “NEC prides itself on being leading edge and forward thinking. What we have produced with the team at West HQ is a showcase of what can be done and something we are extremely excited about.
“We all favour convenience in our lives these days and what NEC and West HQ have been able to produce together in this instance is just that.
Murooka added “This is a world-class venue Sydney will be very proud of.”
The customer experience includes a digital walkway ‘crystal bridge’ with glass flooring powered by the latest NEC LED technology, creating a spectacular, immersive visual feast for customers before they even enter the Sydney Coliseum Theatre.
Richard Errington, Chief Executive, West HQ noted “this major partnership with NEC shows the desire to keep pace with customer expectations, but all in the name of enhancing the customer experience through innovation, from venue entry through to dining and entertainment experiences.
“To bring this level of technology and sophistication to a venue of our size is no small feat. The relationship forged with NEC has opened the door to some endless possibilities for West HQ and I’m encourage by what the future holds.”
West HQ’s Sydney Coliseum also yesterday announced a preferred supplier partnership with Jands and L-Acoustics to deliver the world-class L-ISA Hyperreal Sound System for the $100 million theatrical development set to open today (12th December 2019).
The ‘hyperreal’ frontal scene sound system will include a 65-speaker system that heightens a sense of proximity and connection between artist and audience creating a multi-dimensional sound experience.
L-ISA technology offers a contemporary way to design, process, mix, and experience multidimensional sound which overcomes the pitfalls of audio radiating from the “wrong” location. Accurate localisation of sound sources provides a vibrancy and immediacy lacking in live amplified audio.
L-ISA matches what audiences hear to what they see, giving listeners the sonic equivalent of direct eye contact: sound, which is clear, natural, and highly intelligible, ultimately creating a direct and deeper connection between performer and audience.
Creating a world-class theatrical venue from the ground up provided West HQ with a unique opportunity to push the boundaries of venue design and theatre technology. Set with a goal to deliver a theatrical soundscape and performance experience unlike any other, Craig McMaster, Sydney Coliseum Theatre Executive Director, and Bicci Henderson, Technical Operations Manager, knew the importance of selecting partners who could buy into that vision. After discovering the L-ISA Hyperreal Sound System and experiencing the depth and width of the sound produced, it was a clear and easy choice.
Gerry Gavros, Brand Manager Jands advised, “L-Acoustics and Jands are honoured and excited to be involved in providing the first L-ISA installation in the Southern Hemisphere to the new Sydney Coliseum Theatre. We look forward to being involved throughout the project until final calibration, and to witness the theatre come to life with Immersive Hyperreal Sound.”
L-ISA technology has been deployed by high profile artists across a variety of musical styles in over 200 shows worldwide, attended by over millions of people. Early adopters include: Ennio Morricone and his orchestra, National Orchestra of Lille, ODESZA, BBC Proms, Lorde, Tonhalle Orchestra featuring Yuja Wang, Bon Iver, deadmau5, alt-J and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s production of Harry Potter Symphony at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
This L-ISA announcement is the first in a series about the technical capability of what has been coined Sydney’s next great theatre
