read moreWarwick Stadium is moving forward with plans to become one of Western Australia’s largest indoor sports facilities.
Formerly known as the Warwick Leisure Centre, this newly rebranded facility is looking to the future, building on 25 years of service to the community.
Significant planning and investment in this community sporting facility is seeing the venue in the process of growing so that it will offer eight indoor sports courts, rivalling the biggest centres in metropolitan Perth.
While a new website (www.warwickstadium.com.au), social media presence and signage have been launched, there has also been substantial change to the site with earthworks gathering pace and the scale of this development starting to take shape.
Just a few weeks into the project at the Churches of Christ Sport & Recreation Association (CCSRA) operated facility, significant progress can be seen from Wanneroo and Warwick Roads. Stadium patrons, including some very eager and enthusiastic boys and girls (both young and old), have enjoyed a closer look, keenly watching from the fence line as the heavy machinery goes to work.
CCSRA Executive Minister Scott Joy explains that the new Warwick Stadium brand reflects the significant and prominent nature of the new expanded facility.
Joy states “we have the vision and continued passion to see this place of community grow and become the sports facility of choice for players, coaches, officials and spectators to positively interact.”
Earlier this month, a ceremonial ‘Turning of the Sod’ event was held on site to celebrate the commencement of construction for the $8million expansion project, with community and sport leaders representing both local and state bodies in attendance.
When complete, the redeveloped Warwick Stadium will include:
• Four new indoor courts, taking the total to eight competition level indoor courts for basketball and netball, eleven in volleyball mode.
• Main display court that has 450 seat fixed grandstand, retractable bleacher seating and meets international basketball and netball standards.
• Enhanced ‘home court’ environment for Stirling Senators State Basketball League club.
• New 500 metre² state-of-the-art gym and group fitness room.
• New entrance and reception
• New café
The redevelopment is expected to take between 12 and 14 months, making Warwick Stadium both a prominent landmark and exciting development for sport in the northern corridor of Perth.
