read moreThe procurement process to appoint the operator responsible for the day-to-day management of the new 60,000 seat Perth Stadium has commenced.
Set to open in 2017, the operator is expected to be working in the Stadium by the end of 2015 attracting and managing events and getting systems, equipment and personnel in place to provide a ‘fans first’ experience.
Announcing that Expressions of Interest (EOI) were now being invited from suitably qualified and experienced stadium operators, Western Australia Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies "today is an important day for this job-creating project. It is imperative the successful operator is an organisation that shares the same vision as the State Government.
“Providing an exceptional ‘fans first’ experience has been a key goal for this world-class structure from the very start and the operator will play a pivotal role in the delivery of this mandate from the first day of operations.”
The operator will manage a range of activities in the stadium and sports precinct including events and functions, catering, cleaning, waste management, security, traffic management and ticketing.
Minister Davies said the process to appoint the operator was expected to take 12 months, adding "the successful respondent will be on board in early 2016, more than two years before opening, scheduled for the start of the 2018 Australian Football League season.
“The operator will maximise the number of events and functions at the venue, providing a year-round program of activity that ultimately delivers a range of benefits to the taxpayer.”
Once EOI responses are reviewed, short-listed respondents will be provided with Request for Proposals documentation, detailing specifications to be addressed in any bid responses.
The operator will work closely with facilities manager, Brookfield Johnson Controls, which was appointed as part of the Westadium consortium in August 2014.
The operator will be responsible for ensuring the infrastructure remains in excellent condition and fit for stadium operations.
Construction of the stadium started in December.
