read moreSet for its official opening on 26th March, the new Virgin Active Barangaroo fitness club is promising to deliver what will be the “gym of the future” offering “the best in people, product, facility and programming to bring you a gym like never before”.
First promoted last year as “a new global facility concept”, the new club occupies a smaller floor space of 520 metre² compared to Virgin Active’s existing six clubs in Australia, which sit at around 4,500 metre² in size, and will operate quite differently to the current clubs.
Located on a floor adjacent to Barangaroo’s Fitness First Titanium club, within The Streets of Barangaroo concept area, the new club will have an emphasis on group exercise while offering immersive studios, personalised gear up and pre/post game zones and staggered class start times.
In promotional literature for the club, Relationship Manager Joshua Castillo writes “Virgin Active Barangaroo is all about your experience – we have left no stone unturned to ensure what you feel and what you are a part of is world-class every time.
“I’m talking about every little detail in terms of quality, convenience, intimacy and sustainability.
“Similar to a business or first class airline ticket, you will be able to conveniently book the exact position in the studio you want to rock out in. A concierge will greet you by name and we’ll have your Specialized cycle shoes or ozone cleaned leather boxing gloves ready and waiting on arrival.
“Classes will be purposefully staggered to maximise your experience throughout every part of your pre and post class journey. Each exclusive class will have just 20-22 spots to enhance and foster a greater connection with your ‘Rock-Star’ instructor, your community and with your program. Once we factor in your consistent weekly attendance; the membership base will be limited to circa 1000 members to maintain your comfort and class booking availability.”
The new Club also showcases Virgin Active’s vision for the future of fitness, according to Australia’s Managing Director, Scott Hood, around irresistible exercise experiences, where every aspect of a club and class has been tailored to create a polysensory experience.
Hood explains “everything from the design, materials, program, music and staff has been rethought to build a culture and program that encourages, nurtures and cultivates a feel-good exercise experience.
“The Collection will offer an irresistible exercise experience to the Australian market, where being active is not just determined by the intensity of a workout, it is an immersive journey to improving your health, mind-set and mood.”
In keeping with its up-market location, the club features ‘five-star’ hotel amenities in its changing rooms with bath and workout towels available as well as phone chargers in every locker, GHD hair straighteners and Dyson supersonic hairdryers.
However, the premium location and features of Virgin Active Barangaroo come at a cost of $60 per week on a 12-month plan or $75 per week for casual membership, making it among the most expensive gyms in Australia.
In addition, it has also been reported that members of other Virgin Active Health Clubs will not be able to use the Barangaroo facility. Members of Virgin Active Barangaroo will have access to all other clubs in Australia and Collection Clubs world-wide.
