From significant economic contributions, to community engagement and sector growth, to education, trade and investment; business events create real change and lasting legacies for Victoria. The informative and comprehensive report features case studies from business events in Melbourne over the past decade, demonstrating the many ways in which these events have contributed to the Victorian economy as well as having far reaching impacts.
Speaking at the opening press conference at the Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME) 2025, MCB Chief Executive Julia Swanson highlighted some of the landmark events that have shaped Melbourne.
Swanson noted “from the strengthening of leadership and international partnerships of the Asia Pacific Offshore Wind & Green Hydrogen Summit in 2023, to the community engagement of the 2024 Lions International Convention, and the lasting legacy and impact of the 20th International AIDS Conference; business events are invaluable to Victoria.
“This report includes multiple case studies outlining what Melbourne Convention Bureau has achieved and the immense value that business events have brought to the Victorian community, to the economy, to education, trade, and investment.”
The Positive Impacts of Business Events Report demonstrates that as well as supporting the economy, business events act as a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation and networking opportunities. They advance industry growth, drive technological advancements, and enhance skill development across key sectors. Additionally, these events stimulate collaboration and lead to sustainable development outcomes.
Over the past ten years, MCB has delivered 1,620 business events, resulting in $2.34 billion in economic contribution. Business events boost hotel occupancy, with 1.3 million hotel room nights booked over the past ten years from the 610,000 delegates visiting Victoria.
Additionally, business events generate employment opportunities in event planning, hospitality, transportation and local services, with an estimated 29,000 jobs having been created by MCB’s business events over the past decade.
