Refurbishment completed on key venues for Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games hosting
Authorities have announced that the project to renovate key venues for Hangzhou’s hosting of the 2022 Asian Games has been completed.
The Yellow Dragon Sports Centre, which is due to host football, water polo and gymnastics competition at this year's Games features a 52,000-capacity main stadium, a 6,000-seater gymnasium and a 2,000 capacity aquatics centre which will host water polo competition.
Built between 1997 and 2003, with the main stadium opening in 2000, the complex is located 18 kilometres from the Asian Games Village and includes three of the 55 competition venues to be used throughout Hangzhou 2022. It has undergone a two-year renovation in preparation for the Games.
Announcing the completion, the official Facebook page of the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, TV and Tourism, stated “Teamwork makes the dream work - the Hangzhou Asian Games is getting ready to race out of the blocks!
“As a branch venue for the Asian Games, the Yellow Dragon Sports Center Stadium has recently been refurbished. The upgraded ‘New Yellow Dragon’ has finally unveiled its mysteries. Hangzhou citizens can now enjoy the exciting competitions at the convenience of their doorsteps.”
Set to run from 10th to 25th September, the 19th Asian Games will utilise a total of 55 competition venues.
Among new venues, the 80,000-seat ‘Big Lotus’ main stadium and 10,000-seat ‘Small Lotus’ tennis centre are its main attractions.
