2018 FINA World Aquatics Convention to be staged in Hangzhou

2018 FINA World Aquatics Convention to be staged in Hangzhou
January 29, 2018

Swimming world governing body FINA has announced that its fifth FINA World Aquatics Convention (FWAC) will take place in Hangzhou, China from 8th to 10th December this year, immediately prior to the 2018 FINA Swimming World Championships (25m).

Providing a platform on which the global aquatics family and business leaders can meet to network, share best practice, encourage engagement in aquatic sports, and boost elite performance in all FINA disciplines, FWAC 2018 will bring together key representatives from the world of aquatics, including its 209 national federations, organising committees, host cities, athletes, coaches, and commercial organisations.

It includes a three-day exhibition; panel discussions; one-on-one interviews; coaches clinics and a range of social activities.

Announcing the hosting of the event in Hangzhou, FINA President Dr Julio Maglione stated “we are particularly excited to bring the Convention to Hangzhou.

“The Chinese government expects the value of its aquatics industry to reach US $30 billion (in value) by 2020, and FWAC 2018 provides the perfect platform for international businesses to learn more about the unprecedented opportunities in China.”

All Convention delegates are also invited to attend the Opening Ceremony of the FINA Swimming World Championships (25m) which takes place from 11th to 16th December, also in Hangzhou.

A FINA statement added “the timing and location of both events ensure FWAC remains the most important industry event in aquatics, and confirms the vibrant City of Hangzhou as the aquatics capital of China in 2018.”

The FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) or ‘Short Course Worlds’ are swum in a short course (25 metre) pool, and, since 2000, have has been held in the years when FINA has not held its main World Championships.

Hangzhou will also be hosting the 2022 Asian Games.
