Queensland Tourism Industry Council welcomes recovery guidelines

Queensland Tourism Industry Council welcomes recovery guidelines
May 9, 2020

The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) has welcomed the tourism industry post COVID-19 recovery guidelines released yesterday (Friday 8th May 2020) by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

QTIC, Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said this clarity is what the industry had desperately sought from governments advising “we have met with the Queensland Premier and the Queensland Tourism Minister as late as yesterday, to stress the importance of providing clear stepping stones and timelines for tourism operators to prepare for a return to business. Today’s announcements have delivered just that.

“The only viable, long-term strategy is for businesses, importantly in tourism, to be allowed to get back to business and generate income for regional communities and safeguard jobs.

“We will continue to work closely with the Queensland Government to reassure health officials and the travelling public that our Queensland operators are committed to providing COVID-safe tourism services and safe workplaces.”

QTIC is already working across all tourism sectors and with highly qualified health professionals to ensure all operators can follow appropriate procedures and protocols to achieve top-quality customer care.

Gschwind added “QTIC will work diligently with Queensland Tourism Minister Kate Jones and her Department of Innovation, Tourism Industry Development and Cross River Rail, to put in place the best, practical tourism COVID-safe plans. This will allow us to implement more easing of restrictions for our COVID-safe businesses.

“Every operator is fully committed to doing the right thing and Queensland has a great opportunity to showcase its quality tourism credentials to safety-conscious customers.”
