Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies gets approval for COVIDSafe Plan for shows
December 1, 2020

The Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies Inc. (QCAS) has advised that its Queensland Agricultural Shows and Showgrounds Industry COVIDSafe Plan has been approved by the Queensland Chief Medical Officer.

Providing the framework for the planning and delivery of shows in 2021, the approval of the plan, as of 26th November, follows, as QCAS advises in its website, having “been continuously in talks with our Government departments and stakeholders to ensure we are on top of all information our shows may require.”

The adherence of shows in Queensland to Coronavirus regulations saw a group of Victorian show workers removed from the Mackay Showgrounds over a COVID-19 border breach in early October.

Queensland Police removed 14 Victorian-based amusement operators from the Mackay Showgrounds after they travelled from Victoria with the wrong border passes to set up rides for the Mackay Show.

Show organisers called Police, who evicted the show workers from the site and moved them into quarantine, where they were tested for COVID-19. Having returned negative test results, they left the state.

Manager of Mackay's Showfest, Lance Collyer, told the ABC “they shouldn't have been here. As soon as we found out they were on site, we had the police involved.”
