PARC revamps swim program to improve children’s water skills

PARC revamps swim program to improve children’s water skills
February 7, 2017

The Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC) is aiming to improve children’s water skills by revamping its swim school program and guaranteeing its AUSTSWIM qualified teachers will make youngsters better swimmers.

With a landmark 2016 report from Life Saving Victoria highlighting that three out of five Victorian children can’t swim when they finish primary school, PARC wants to be part of changing this statistic and saving more lives - redesigned its swim membership program to deliver the best results, greater flexibility and value for money for families.

After undertaking four customer service surveys in 2016, PARC found flexibility, development and feedback to be what parents valued most in their child’s swim program.

As a mother, PARC Swim Manager Julia Wood understands what parents value, stating “we know how many competing responsibilities parents are juggling and wanted to design a swim program that addressed their needs.

“By offering make-up classes and suspended memberships, families going away are no longer losing out on valuable class time.

“In addition, we’ve added an extra four weeks of classes free of charge to ensure children progress and build confidence in the water faster.

“Parents will also be kept easily up-to-date with their child’s development, receiving an email after each assessment directing them to the online portal where they can view their child’s progress and what they need to do to improve.”

The centre is so confident in its high-quality PARC Swim program that it is placing even greater emphasis on its Progression Guarantee, ensuring students move up at least one level within 30 weeks or receive a free extra class each week until they do.

Wood adds “by offering parents more incentives to encourage their children to learn to swim as early as possible, we hope to make a real difference in the lives of Peninsula families.

“It’s so important that children take lessons consistently throughout the year, not just in summer, for the best opportunity at becoming strong, safe swimmers.”

The Progression Guarantee is in line with PARC’s vision to ensure every local child can swim, with the centre understanding how busy family life can be, and the new program designed to suit.

The new PARC Swim membership includes a 44-week term, make-up lessons and suspension options starting from $36.50 a fortnight.
