NSW visitor economy plan puts more emphasis on regions

NSW visitor economy plan puts more emphasis on regions
September 6, 2018

The NSW Government has released its new Visitor Economy Industry Action Plan, which aims to triple overnight visitor spending by 2030.

The plan has a revised annual visitor spend target of $55 billion by 2030 and includes a target for regional NSW visitor spend for the first time of $25 billion by 2030.

Industry body Tourism Accommodation Australia has welcomed the Plan, with TAA NSW Chief Executive Carol Giuseppi saying it demonstrates the NSW Government’s commitment to the industry.

Giuseppi advised “(the Plan) builds on the considerable investment and successes achieved since the release of the initial plan back in 2012, which marked a turning point in visitor economy growth in NSW.

“We look forward to continuing to work with government on the implementation and development of the plan.”

The Plan also includes a focus on events, to ensure NSW maintains its position as a top business events destination.

It recommends a review of the Regional Conferencing Strategy and Action Plan, with the findings to be presented to the Minister for Tourism and Major Events, along with recommendations on improvements to ensure better alignment with Business Events Sydney.
