read moreNew campgrounds have opened along Western Australia’s Turquoise Coast with a new 27 kilometre walk trail in Lesueur National Park to be completed later this year.
Managed by the Western Australia Parks and Wildlife Service at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, the new facilities will help meet the growing demand for nature-based tourism in the region.
Western Australia Environment Minister Stephen Dawson notes "the Turquoise Coast is growing in popularity due to its pristine waters, stunning wildflowers and small picturesque towns, as well as improved access via the Indian Ocean Drive.
"Now more than ever, Western Australians are encouraged to 'wander out yonder' and explore the diverse nature-based tourism experiences this State has to offer, while supporting local businesses that have been doing it tough due to COVID-19.”
Karda Campground is located 20 kilometres east of Jurien Bay adjacent to Lesueur National Park and includes 31 campsites suitable for all types of camping accommodation. Each campsite has a picnic table and firepit, and there is a toilet at each of the two camping areas.
Wanagarren Campground is situated alongside the pristine waters of Jurien Bay Marine Park between Wedge and Grey reserves. There are 15 campsites for standard, rooftop and awning tents and it is suitable for campers who are completely self-sufficient.
The new 27km long walk trail in Lesueur National Park – to be completed later this year - takes hikers through hills, valleys and woodlands and will have a new walk-in campsite approximately half-way. Yonga campsite will only be accessible by foot and contains a shelter, three camp platforms and a toilet.
Minister Stephen Dawson added that as part of the WA Recovery Plan, the Western Australian Government has announced a $150 million tourism package investment to support the state's tourism sector as it responds to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
