NASA exhibition breaks attendance records at Queensland Museum

NASA exhibition breaks attendance records at Queensland Museum
April 23, 2019

Queensland Museum’s largest ever exhibition, NASA - A Human Adventure, which opened on 15th March, is already breaking many records with more than 50,000 visitors taking the 'journey through space' since it opened

Queensland Museum Network Chief Executive Dr Jim Thompson said this is the largest exhibition to be hosted at Queensland Museum both in terms of size and the number of objects on display with more than 250 objects in the 1000 metre2 exhibition space.

Dr Thompson advised “NASA – A Human Adventure continues to enthral visitors who are over the Moon to be learning more about mankind’s exploration of the unknown."

Highlights of the exhibition include several space-flown items, rocket engines, a remarkable collection of space suits, and several full-scale replicas including the front section of NASA’s iconic Space Shuttle, Lunar Rover, Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space crafts and Soviet robotic lunar rover Lunokhod.

Queensland Minister for the Arts and Minister for Science Leeanne Enoch noted that "this exhibition was breaking records before it even opened with people booking tickets months in advance.

“During last month’s World Science Festival Brisbane, 3362 people visited NASA – A Human Adventure on 23rd March – it was the largest visitation to a paid exhibition in one day at Queensland Museum.

“It’s clear that people have a real fascination of space and exploration, and the stories that come with it.

“The exhibition’s popularity is still soaring these school holidays. In the first week nearly 3000 space-enthusiasts visited the exhibition and participated in the space themed school holiday program."

Queensland Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones advised that she is expecting the exhibtion to drive visitors to Brisbane and support the local tourism industry.

She added “hosting blockbusters like last month’s World Science Festival Brisbane and the NASA - A Human Adventure exhibit is a testament to the fact that Queensland is a world-class destination for major events (and) we invest in major events because the attract tourists to Queensland and support local jobs."

NASA – A Human Adventure will run at Queensland Museum until 9th October 2019.
