MINDBODY backs Climate Strike as part of commitment to all forms of wellness
September 20, 2019

Digital fitness business MINDBODY is supporting its employees in taking part in the climate strike happening today in Sydney, advising that the day of action aligns with the core values of the company.

Lucy Briggs-Farrell, People and Culture, APAC at MINDBODY has shared the reasons for this with Australasian Leisure Management, writing “working in the health and wellness industry, I’ve seen well-being interpreted in many ways, yet there’s one crucial element that attributes to total wellness that we as consumers and businesses, often overlook. It isn’t a superfood, it isn’t a particular exercise and it isn’t a lunchtime meditation technique.

"It’s environmental well-being.

"It might not seem like the most obvious action to take on a pathway to optimum mental and physical health, but caring for our physical environment and surroundings underpins all the other steps we take to look after ourselves.

"At MINDBODY, we’re driven by our purpose of connecting the world to wellness whilst helping communities live healthier, happier lives. We do this by embracing all seven dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, intellectual, social, occupational, spiritual and environmental.

"Living healthier and happier lives means spending time on things that matter most! For us, best practice wellness in the workplace is helping our employees find and follow their passions.

"We believe that empowering our staff to take action on issues that are important to them facilitates a way for them to bring their whole selves to work. Healthy, happy workers are more productive, less likely to leave their organisation and more engaged with their employers.

"At MINDBODY, we have joined many likeminded businesses in Australia to sign the ‘Notbusinessasusual’ pledge and actively support workers participation in the climate strike this week. It’s why MINDBODY is encouraging our staff to voice their opinions and attend Friday’s climate rallies - if that’s what they’re passionate about.

"A health and wellbeing benefits package that includes mental health support, subsidies for healthy activities and consistent team or community engagement is no longer a nice-to-have for businesses, it’s a must if they want to attract and retain top talent. Data shows that two-thirds (65%) of employees around the world want to work for an employee with a social conscience and now more than ever, employees want to feel that the organisations they work for have a purpose beyond profit.

"While Friday’s climate strikes are one way our employees can show up and we can support them, we believe wellness isn’t an individual pursuit, businesses need to take the next step and encourage wellness in all its forms, including environmental."

Earlier this year MIINDBODY released information on cost effective ways to incorporate environmentally sustainable practices into a fitness business to create more eco-friendly spaces.
