Les Mills looks to revitalise BORN TO MOVE in Australia

Les Mills looks to revitalise BORN TO MOVE in Australia
February 4, 2020

Aware of the importance of getting children active, Les Mills is backing its BORN TO MOVE youth and child-oriented fitness program in Australia in 2020 with Brisbane-based licensed trainer Anna Megueria set to spearhead an expansion drive into gyms and schools.

Having enjoyed major success in Europe and the United Kingdom and with classes offered by Megueria at a Brisbane school proving to be a major success among educators, parents and most importantly the children these classes are designed for, a series of Les Mills BORN TO MOVE training programs are to be held in South East Queensland in February and April.

Explaining the importance of getting children to exercise, Megueria comments “research shows that most people do not exercise enough even though the benefits of exercise in improving health and mental wellbeing are scientifically proven.

“About 60% of young people don’t get enough exercise and it follows that the percentage of non-exercising adults will be roughly the same.

“Some adults will pick up the exercise habit later in life if they discover how beneficial and pleasurable it is, but most will not. Even in Australia, with our great climate and enthusiasm for the outdoors and for watching sport, the percentage of people who do not exercise enough is still very high.

“Exercise is invigorating and this cascades into all parts of our lives. Not only do we enjoy the benefits of working out, but our diet gets better, we are more organised and sleep better, wake up with more energy in the morning and have a better self-image and enhanced levels of confidence.”

Megueria fears that activity levels are low because people don’t pick up the habit when they’re young, stating “the promotion of participation in sports is the traditional means to do this, used by schools and governments, but it has not succeeding in in getting the majority into the habit of exercising regularly.

“The concentration on promoting participation in sport fails because most people aren’t any good at it and don’t have fun. I hated sport at school because I simply wasn’t good enough at it to enjoy so I did my best to avoid it.

“Research and my own experience confirmed that only about 10% of people are natural athletes. It comes as no surprise these are the ones who enjoy sport at school. The rest don’t enjoy it because it’s not fun for them which is why they never get into the habit of exercising regularly.”

Les Mills BORN TO MOVE addresses all these negatives by being presented in a fun non-competitive environment where participants are not judged but encouraged to improve themselves over time. Classes are tailored to the abilities and needs of the group and nobody is left out and made to feel inadequate.
