read moreA world-class adventure attraction is set to be developed in Rotorua, bringing a unique offering that will complement the region’s existing tourism landscape.
Tourism entrepreneur Alex Schmid has secured a site in the popular destination for his first New Zealand aerial adventure park, Ropes and Thrills Rotorua, and is looking for strategic partners to back the venture.
Schmid has a site secured and resource consent in place for a high ropes course to be built at the popular Waipa Valley Mountain Biking Hub - which attracts around 300,000 visitors a year to what is the largest mountain bike network in the country with around 150 kilometres of trails in and around Whakarewarewa forest.
Ropes and Thrills Rotorua will see the New Zealand debut of award-winning internationally patented adventure park system from German manufacturer KristallTurm, which can be designed to include tube slides, giant swings or a walk the plank challenge.
The adventure attraction has been installed in more than 55 locations across 30 countries and four continents, where the proven concept attracts customers ranging from families to thrill seekers - and it is not expected to be any different on New Zealand soil.
Located at the Whakarewarewa mountain biking hub five minutes drive from Rotorua CBD and just a few hours drive from Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga, the affordable eco-tourism activity can either get the blood pumping or the laughter flowing, according to Schmid.
Introducing the project, Schmid advised “if you’re a mountain biker who has had enough of the dirt for the day but are keen for another adrenalin hit, you can park your bike up and test your vertical limits on the 20 metre high wires.
“Or you could head there as a group of family or friends and experience the adventure together before heading off to the nearby Secret Spot Spa with a beer or wine in hand.”
For children the experience will also include a specially designed Kids Course providing easy access for children from four years old, and Waipa’s newly-opened Trail Café caters for the whole family.
