read moreWith Easter approaching, Victorian amusement, water and wildlife park Gumbuya World has reported on its performance since the end of the state’s lockdown late last year.
Having experienced almost two years of closures, Gumbuya World Chief Executive, Ron Weinzierl told Australasian Leisure Management “the summer was very successful coming out of Victoria`s Covid lockdown.
“In December we had really strong support from our education community for both (our) wildlife and Oasis Springs water park.
“We also had a great response to our COVID front line support week.”
This initiative saw Gumbuya World offer free entry for COVID frontline workers in celebration of its third birthday.
Weinzierl added “January and February saw amazing visitation with people taking advantage of our outdoor activities, magical gardens, waterpark, wildlife and rides.
“We have also had some great success in our endangered animals breading program over the spring and summer.
“Our highly successful Pigmy Possum breeding program has double the amount of new arrives from last year, since we added our new enclosure into the wildlife trail.
“River and Willow our resident Koala`s have successfully delivered us with a baby male called Banjo and we also have a beautiful Baby albino wallaby leaving the pouch. We will also be adding our free flight bird show in the coming months.”
March also saw Gumbuya World introduce its Wildlife Wanderers program every Wednesday for parents and pre-school children participate in storytelling, nature-based games and activities along with opportunities to meet some of its animal exhibits.
The program was created to support young children in developing a sense of autonomy, as well as developing a strong connection and respect towards Gumbuya World’s wildlife and was developed using the Early Years Learning Framework to create an engaging and exciting learning environment.
The end of Easter will see Oasis Springs close for the season from 24th April but the rest of Gumbuya World including its animal attractions and other rides will remain open during the winter months.
