Revealed to media this week, the Suns’ new $22 million training and administration centre features a state-of-the-art gym, hot and cold recovery baths, a 25 metre three-lane pool, medical facilities and coaching offices. When completely operational, the facility will also have theatre and lecture rooms for player education, administration space for staff, a cafe and social area.
Part of the larger $126 million 2018 Commonwealth Games precinct, the facility is located on The headquarters, located on Gold Coast City Council land, was jointly funded by the Federal Government ($15 million) and the AFL and Suns ($7 million).
Labelling the facilities the best of their kind in the competition, Gold Coast Suns Chairman Tony Cochrane explained that training facility would establish the Suns as a truly professional club.
Stating that the new base already had lifted the spirits of the whole club, Cochrane commented “we’ve set a new benchmark for not only ourselves, but we’ve (also) set a new benchmark in the AFL.”
Cochrane said the facilities made the Suns a "fair-dinkum club" and he expected the results to follow, adding “I think this club is shaped to achieve that in the next two to three years.
“This year we have a very strong playing list. We have some depth for the first time ever and everybody in this club, whether you’re the coach or the cleaner, they know this is a really critical year in the history of the Gold Coast Football Club.”
