read moreWith one year to go until the start of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, the Games’ Organising Committee has released the full competition dates and times for the 23 sporting disciplines across the sport and para-sport program as well as details of how members of the public can purchase tickets.
With ticket requests opening on 24th April, people are being encouraged to consider which events they would like to attend.
Anticipating that 1.2 million tickets will be sold, Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation Chief Executive Mark Peters anticipates that popular sports that attract too many requests will go into a ballot.
Peters told told ABC Gold Coast “we know that some events like the hundred metres finals in track and field, and swimming will probably be over-subscribed.
With just one year until the Games begin, organisers have marked the milestone with a series of celebrations under the ‘One Year to Go’ banner.
Revealing the the official Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games ticketing guide today, Queensland Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones stated “the GC2018 sports competition schedule boasts the largest medal program and the most events in Commonwealth Games history.
“Games fans can choose between 278 competition sessions as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.”
Minister Jones said every effort was made to ensure tickets were reasonably priced for families, adding “we want the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games to be affordable for everyone.
“With more than half of all tickets priced at $40 or less – as well as four free events – there is something for everyone to experience the Commonwealth Games live in 2018.”
Federal Minister for Sport Greg Hunt said Australia is immensely proud to host the Commonwealth Games for a fifth time.
Minister Hunt concluded “with one year to go there is a sharpened focus on preparing our athletes to be at their best and I wish all participants and officials, event organisers and the 15,000 volunteers all the best for a great Games.”
The 2018 Games are expected to attract 6600 athletes and team officials coming from 70 nations and territories, with more than 100,000 visitors expected to descend on the Gold Coast and a global audience of 1.5 billion.
