Events website removes men for International Women’s Day

Events website removes men for International Women’s Day
March 8, 2019

Australian talent bureau Enhance Entertainment has made a bold move to promote gender equality by showcasing women only on its website, for the entire week of International Women's Day - 4th to 11th March 2019.

Alison Clarke, Chief Executive of Enhance Entertainment, is aware the company may lose business during the week-long initiative, but is compelled to take action for better gender balance in business events, commenting "there’s still a long way to go before women enjoy the same pay, career opportunities and leadership roles as men.”

While the business events industry is female dominated, there is still a gender gap similar to that seen across the average Australian workplace:

• More men hold director and C-suite positions - only one of every seven chief executives is female
• On average men take home $25,717 per annum more than women

Clarke added "times have changed, and audiences are demanding balance. Present all white, all male speakers at your event and be prepared for a public backlash on social media.”

By removing all male talent from their website, Clarke hopes to put the spotlight on gender disparity and to urge anyone who produces events to keep equality firmly on their radar.”

She concluded “equality doesn’t happen by chance. We can only achieve it through concerted effort and action.”
