read moreDiscovery Parks Nagambie Lakes, one of the largest accommodation providers in the Goulburn Valley, has reopened 18 months on from being impacted by major floods that devastated regional Victoria and with extensive recovery and rebuild works now complete.
Discovery Parks Nagambie Lakes is located on a small peninsula between the Goulburn River and Lake Nagambie, around 40 minutes south of Shepparton and was inundated by floodwaters in mid- October 2022.
What followed was a more than 12-month rebuild process as Discovery Parks set about ensuring the park would be more resilient to future flooding events against a backdrop of building supply and trade shortages, and further weather challenges that saw the park flooded again in January this year, requiring a temporary evacuation.
However, with more than 50 cabins now raised on stilts above major flood levels and extensive recovery works completed across the park, including returfing all grass camp sites, a full refit of the onsite conference centre and extensive repair works to park amenities including the communal kitchens, pool, tennis court, bouncing pillow and activity centre, the park is officially open again for business.
Discovery Parks Regional Operations Manager Sean Goggin said it was an exciting time to have the park up and running again and thanked the local community and suppliers for their continued support.
Goggin shared “It’s been a tough 18 months for our team and the whole community – tourism is such an important economy for central Victoria, which really motivated us to get the park up and running as soon as possible.
“With more floods in January this year, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing, but we’ve had some incredible support from Murray Goulburn Water, the Strathbogie Shire Council and Go Nagambie as well as the countless partners and suppliers who’ve assisted with the recovery works.”
To mark the milestone occasion, Discovery Parks – Nagamie Lakes yesterday hosted a community open day event for visitors to enjoy an afternoon of live music, local food trucks, family-friendly entertainment and activities, tours of the rebuilt park and river cruises on the Goulburn Explorer.
The park is also booked out for the weekend thanks to an exclusive $1 per night deal for all powered and unpowered sites across the property.
Goggin enthused “we’re excited to be back open again and celebrate with guests, partners and the local community who’ve been such amazing supporters right throughout the recovery process.Extending a special $1 per night deal was a way of saying thanks, filling up the park and encouraging people back here to spend their money in the local community at shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.”
