read moreThe 2015 Perth Royal Show has experienced a significant decline in visitor numbers during its eight days of operations from 26th September to 3rd October.
While remaining as Perth’s largest community event, the Show, which in most years attracts close to 400,000 visitors, struggled to break the 300,000 visitor barrier this year.
The Show, which closed yesterday (Saturday) has suffered from the Western Australian Government withdrawing its financial support for free entry for children under 12, which has boosted visits over the past decade.
The run of Perth’s AFL teams, the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles, through the AFL finals series and, in the case of the Eagles, on to yesterday’s AFL Grand Final, has also been seen to have impacted on the Show, diverting families’ discretionary income and time towards the major sporting spectacles.
Free admission for children has been a Western Australian Government policy going back to 2004 aimed at ensuring city children had the opportunity to engage with the agricultural industry.
