Construction of new Salisbury Aquatic Centre nears completion

Construction of new Salisbury Aquatic Centre nears completion
January 25, 2024

Construction of the new $29.9 million Salisbury Aquatic Centre redevelopment is nearing completion in Adelaide’s North.

The Centre is situated within the picturesque natural setting of Happy Home Reserve – which also features a circuit walk, junior playground, dog park area and large grassy expanse.

Salisbury Council has shared updates on the progress, including the nearing completion of the 10-metre-high water slide tower and the highly anticipated childrens’ waterpark.

Co-funded by the Government of South Australia, this new and improved facility will provide a diverse range of aquatic, health and leisure services to the community.

The design of the aquatic centre was informed by a comprehensive community consultation process. In addition to very strong support for a new aquatic centre, the consultation highlighted the community’s desire for the new centre to provide opportunities to swim for fun, fitness and education (swimming lessons).

The most requested facilities included an indoor warm water pool, water slide, café, picnic area and water play, in addition to a strong preference for an outdoor 50-metre pool versus an outdoor 25-metre pool.

Beyond the aquatic attractions, significant progress has been made in various building services. This includes the successful completion of electrical work, lighting installation, air-conditioning systems, and internal wall and ceiling lining in the state-of-the-art fitness gym and contemporary change rooms.

The gym has been designed to overlook the outdoor pools and surrounding grass area, and offers ample natural light and open space.

The new aquatic facility will operate all year round and include:

  • New swimming centre building infrastructure and amenities
  • New indoor multi-use lap/leisure pool and speciality program pool
  • Fitness gym
  • Café
  • New outdoor eight-lane 50m swimming pool
  • New outdoor water slides and waterplay
  • Landscaping improvements
  • Upgraded car park and pedestrian links

The Salisbury Aquatic Centre is being constructed by local South Australian builder, Mossop Construction + Interiors.

As the project approaches its final stages, several key elements are yet to be completed, including the new Tennis Club rooms, a new car park, and road resurfacing, all of which are aimed at further enhancing the facility’s appeal.

Salisbury Council has also released a flythrough video showcasing the developments and work done so far on the Salisbury Aquatic Centre.
