read moreNew Zealand facility manager CLM has restarted its internal Māori leadership programme, Kāhu Kōrako.
Run under the kaupapa Aroora (wellbeing philosophy) and supported by Te Puni Kōkiri, the programme kicked off again in early February after a lengthy break as a result of disruptions to regional travel caused by COVID-19.
The group met in Whangārei for their second wānanga (teaching session) to engage in a series of experiences and discussions geared towards supporting haoura (wellbeing) and rangatiratanga (Māori leadership).
CLM advised that “whakaheke ngaru (surfing) on traditional Papa Pae (bodyboards) at Matapōuri on the Tutukākā coast was a real highlight, as was harvesting and then making the Rongoa Māori Tupākihi Panipani (Muscle rub) together.
“The ancestral maunga Manaia, which stands as a guardian at the entrance of the Whangārei Harbour, was also successfully scaled.”
The Kāhui (group) are scheduled to meet again in March in Whakatū/Nelson on the trail of Pounamu (with Taonga by Timoti) and paddling across Te Tai o Aorere (with Waka Able Tasman).
